Introducing myself

Hello world!! My name is Big John Bear – BJB or Beej for short. I’ve been making lots of lovely friends and tweeting about my adventures on Twitter @bigjohnbear for a while, but wanted to share longer stories and more photos, so here I am writing my first ever blog. I thought I should start by telling you a little bit about me and my family….

I am a Pedigree jointed bear, and I was adopted for my Mummy’s first birthday from the famous toy store Hamleys in Regent Street, London. We grew up together in Bedfordshire, England and had lots of adventures together as cubs travelling all over the UK, Europe and even all the way to Canada!

Shhh! don’t tell Mummy I’ve shared this one – weren’t the Eighties great!!

Unfortunately as silly humans sometimes do, Mummy decided she was too “grown up” to take me on adventures when she reached her twenties; but I was still always her bedtime companion and go-to guy for cuddles and comfort. But that all changed in 2009 when she met Dora (not his real name – maybe I’ll tell you about that another time).

When Dora came on the scene he used to help me dress up in funny outfits to make Mummy smile when she got home from work and he helped me go on secret adventures and we wrote Mummy a little book about them. So it was only natural that when Dora asked Mummy to marry him that I would be Best Bear at their wedding.

After the wedding I got to go with them on their honeymoon to Durness in the North of Scotland, and from then on the three of us have gone on lots of adventures together all over the world.

We all live happily together with Rio our Spanish Water dog and many other teddy and stuffie friends in Shropshire near the famous Ironbridge. But soon, we will be leaving our little house in Shropshire and making a big move…… but more on that soon!

  1. Another Bear blog for me to keep up with alongside PammyBear’s! Perfect!

I get what you were saying about your mom deciding that she was too grown up to take you out and about. Sparkie told me that Shakie had put his childhood teddy bear into the wardrobe at the age of about fifteen. It was only when Sparkie met him and persuaded him to bring Ted home to live with them that Ted was finally rescued! Thankfully, Ted is very forgiving. Especially since Sparkie and Shakie introduced him to so many other stuffed friends – including me!

Happy to have found your blog. I will keep checking back occasionally to see what you have been up to. And before I go, those are beautiful photographs! Especially the wedding of your humans. x

    1. Thank you Jim ๐Ÿ™‚ Human’s go through silly phases sometimes – it’s a good job we teddies and stuffies are so forgiving!

  7. What a super blog, BJB. My Teddy came from Ironbridge – the MD of Chad Valley lived in my motherโ€™s village and brought her a bear from his โ€˜factoryโ€™ to give to her new baby (me) 64 years ago. Like you, heโ€™s been almost everywhere with me. Tell your mummy sheโ€™s got a goodโ€™un in finding a chap that understands all about bears.
My Ted did a blog too, to amuse (embarrass) my son went he went to university. Iโ€™ll try and find a link to it. He didnโ€™t always use very good grammar, like you do, though.
Canโ€™t wait for your next instalment!
